Meet the Instructor:

Shakia Chanel is a  (homeschool) mother, a musician, songwriter…and “Child of God,” as she puts it. Shakia taught herself to play many instruments starting at an elementary age and continues her instrument exploration to date. She has recently taken up cello lessons here in Augusta and is passionate about all things music!

As a songwriter, Shakia has written and composed a variety of songs which she periodically gets to perform alongside her band members at local events. Her love for music, and her unorthodox journey with the like, is spilling over into her community as a whole. And she is looking forward to her partnership with Jessye Norman and having the opportunity to share her passion for music with the youth in our community. Shakia’s children are also musicians and she loves any and every opportunity they get to just jam together.

It was a great resource for homeschool art classes and my children learned a lot and made a few friends.

My first impression was that it was well organized, fun for students, and encouraged them to be themselves in their creative expression. It did not change, the school was exactly that.
