All We’ll Remember Are Their Stripes- A solo fine art show by Jacob Zimmerman

About the Show

“Ever since I was young, I have loved tigers. They are majestic, strong, and beautiful animals that exemplify the beauty and fierceness of nature. I have a distinct memory of crying upon learning that all the known tiger species are endangered, with three of them thought to be extinct. Those three were confirmed as extinct species just a few years ago.

When it comes to animal conservation, the main motivation is something along the lines of “We want to keep this animal around,” often because the animal is unique or aesthetically pleasing. But animal endangerment is beyond this. The conservation of animals is not to save popular or favorite animals, but ones that belong in our world. The tiger, like most animals, plays a prominent and irreplaceable role in its ecosystem- meaning disaster if they were to disappear. If one species goes, more will follow. This series seeks to showcase the essence of tigers and other endangered animals as living creatures that exist in our world alongside us. While homage is paid toward their aesthetic beauty, the focus is on the ferocity and wildness of these amazing creatures.”

About the Artist

Jacob Zimmerman is a painter/mixed-media artist living in Augusta, Georgia. His work focuses on the creation of scenes and landscapes inspired by nature and stories. He also works in graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, and digital media to create story-focused work depicting characters or ideas. He is characterized by his atmospheric landscapes, capturing an ethereality of dreams within the paintings. Jacob also employs contrast in his work to build a differential tension either within or between several works in a series. His influences are mainly modern surrealist artists, notably Seb McKinnon, Leonora Carrington, and Kay Sage. He has exhibited in a number of exhibitions and is working to expand the reach of his work.
