Student Writing Spotlight: Samuel Wilson

Loathe the Teeth (After Joy Harjo’s “Praise the Rain”)

Loathe the solitary chair, looking, looming near.

Loathe the instruments of pain, the burning glue, the tiny hook.

Loathe the drill, the removal of the glue.

Loathe the man with the shiny teeth, always clicking.

Loathe the blinding light from above.

Loathe the rubber bands.

Loathe the food restrictions. I want a Snickers.
